custom transformation and broken FK

Hi,
I need to do the following through Enterprise Manager (EM).
I need to copy the structure of all the tables along with their PK, FK
etc and need to copy the data of only select set of tables (not all of
them). I tried doing this in EM but lost the relationship between
tables in the target database.
Here is the example:
TablePK has an indexed column. TableFK has a column which is the
Foreign key to TablePK.
- I create ine DTS package1 in which I transfer both tables as objects
along with their PK & FK, and without data.
- I ceate a second package2 in which TablePK is only transferred, this
time with Data.
- At the end I notice that the relationship between TablePK and TableFK
is broken in the target database.
Does anyone have a clue how do I go about this problem. I am a newbie.
TIA.
You could use the copy objects task in DTS seeing as this is one of the NGs
from which you have asked for a reply.
You could try using SQLDMO to script all the details you require from the
tables you want as well.

|||try DB Ghost http://www.dbghost.com you can copy over schema and select those
tables where you want to copy data and it takes care to propagate objects and
data in the correct order so relationships aren't broken.

Select your source database -> All Tasks-> Generate SQL Script... One of the
last tabs gives you the option of taking FK relationships and indexes etc.
It is NOT checked by default..
Make sure you select it and then run the script in QA to create the tables
in the new DB..
For a small number of tables I usually select INTO to move the data, For a
larger number of tables I use DTS...

Custom procs for replication

SQL Server 2000 Enterprise

Hello,

I have a test publication of two tables. Both tables are supposed to use a custom update stored procedure
(you know, "Replace UPDATE commands with this stored procedure call:")
When updating Table1 the system calls my custom stored stored procedure.

Here is a small excerpt captured by the Profiler when updating Table1:

exec usp_FNLC_MSupd_Table1 'Jun 24 2005 12:00:00:000AM', NULL, 100081142, 0x01

Looks good. I see that my custom update proc was used (usp_FNLC_MSupd_Table1).

Now, when updating Table2 (Table2 is pretty identical to Table1) Profiler sends this back and the update on the subscriber fails:

exec sp_executesql N'delete from "Table2" where "Dates3ID" = @.P1 insert into "Table2" values (@.P2, @.P3) ', N'@.P1 int,@.P2 int,@.P3 datetime', 8, 8, 'Mar 24 2006 12:00:00:000AM'

Then..

exec sp_executesql N'insert into "Table1" values (@.P1, @.P2) ', N'@.P1 int,@.P2 datetime', 8, 'Mar 24 2006 12:00:00:000AM'
Go

This is what the distribution agent throws back:

Insert Error: Column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition.
(Source: DFBPBSO (Data source); Error number: 213)

So, why isn't the article Table2 using my custom update proc? All I do is updates, no deletes or inserts. No matter what I do for this article, it will not use the custom update proc.

I need help, please. Thank you in advance,
L

When you update a column that's part of a unique constraint, it will be replicated as delete/insert. I'm guessing you're updating a PK column on Table2?

Custom Data Extension

I know that SRS Enterprise Edition (EE) is needed to implement a custom
security extension. Do I need Enterprise too if I want to implement a
custom data extension?
TIA.You shouldn't as noted here:

Custom Authentication in RS 2005

We are currently using RS Standard Edition (SE). With the first version of
RS, Custom Authentication was only available for the Enterprise Edition
(EE).
I was reading the new features of RS 2005, and I noticed that Custom
Authentication is now available for both SE and EE licenses. Is this
correct? I just want to confirm (before installing RS 2005) since this is
our major hurdle in creating a secure reporting system.
TIA.
