Customize dimension attributes in SSAS

I have a time dimension table with an integer column "Quarter". In the SSAS Dimension I would like to display this as "Q 1" etc. instead of just "1".

I could easily add a column in the root table, but would prefer to format the column in the SSAS dimension. Can't find a "Format" property for an attribute. Is there a way to do this?

The most simple way to do this is to add a named calculation(a new column) in the data source view for the dimension table.

Add this attribute to the dimension or use is as the name column for the quarter attribute/column.

Add: 'Q' + ' ' + Cast(Quarter as Char(1))

Custom Rollup formula and All Member Formula property

For SSAS 2000 ,to specify a custom rollup formula in any level except the All Level, the Custom Rollup Formula property of the level has to be used.

Then to specify it for the All Level the All Member Formula property of the dimension has to be used.

But at SSAS 2005, to specify it for the All Level , I dont know where is the All Member Formula property of the dimension .

Anyone know where is the All Member Formula property of the dimension at SSAS 2005.

Thanks

How about making a cube MDX script assignment to the Root() of the dimension?

Working with Custom Member Formulas

Note: To apply an MDX expression to members of a particular level instead of to members of all levels based on a particular attribute, you can define the expression as an MDX script on the level.

May I know why the CustomRollupColumn property or UnaryOperatorColumn property after configure can not be remove if I dont want it to be done this way. I tried to remove from table ID and columnid as show below, but I not see none or any other setting to remove it .I only able to change the setting , but not remove the setting.

UnaryOperatorColumn

- Sources

--TableID

--ColumnID

CustomRollupColumn

- Sources

--TableID

--ColumnID

For this moment,I just able have to delete the dimension and recreate it again because of fail to remove the above property setting.

Anyone know how to remove the setting. Thanks

Custom fields in SSAS 2005 KPI's

Hi there,

What is the best way to get a custom field in a SSAS 2005 Cube KPI?
For example, what if the user wanted two target fields, or a budget field, or a contact person field for a KPI? (mostly static data, hard coded by the user).

Thanks.

You can use the Annotations property of KPIs (and other AS 2005 objects) to store custom information. The annotations is a property bag of name-value pairs and can contain most anything you like (including complex XML). If you set Visibility=SchemaRowset on an annotation, then the annotation will be available in the schema rowset and can be used by client applications. The down side to this approach is that off-the-shelf clients will generally ignore annotations and you'll probably need a custom client application to look for and use the annotations.

Custom Code in SSAS

Hi,

in AS2000 you could register an own dll to add functionality in MDX for calculations. What is the equivalent in AS2005?

Thanks...

The same except now it is a .NET assembly.

Mosha has some interesting examples on his web site and in his blog.
