Customized Parameters Area For Reporting Services

Has anyone customized the parameters area to pretty it up and make it more configurable like control number of columns etc?

Or can anyone direct me to a third party component?

Thanks.

I'm attempting to do this as well. I have a lot of params for a storedProc call and want to format it so the area isn't so large. Anyone figure this out yet?|||

Customized color in Column chart?

I am using MS Reporting 2000 for Report where in one of the report I am
using column chart. Now I would like to give customized color to each column
in this chart but don't know how to implement it.
Please help me out from this situation!
Thanks,
SachinBasically the only way I have figured it outs is by going to the chart
properties>data tab>edit your value>appearance tab>click series style button
at bottom> fill tab. Once there you can eithere choose a different color
for all the bars or if you want a specific color for each bar showing up you
have to click on the expression button and write a iif statement stating
those colors. If you have any more questions let me know.

Thanks a tone for your reply.
This is absolutely right. But in my case i am using MS Reporting 2000 where
i am not able to have series style option in Appearance tab in data section.
To come out from this issue I have created one SetColor fuction in code
window of Report property but i am not sure how and where to call this
function so that it will create custom color for series. See Below example:
Public Function SetColor(N As String) As String
Select Case N
Case "Incurred"
Return "#fa8072"
Case "Billable"
Return "#eee8aa"
Case "Billed"
Return "#c0ffc0"
Case "Collected"
Return "#4169e1"
End Select
End Function
Now what i tried to call this function from Data-->Values-->Edit-->Value
property. And i am still not able to get appropriate output.
Please let me know is there any other work around for this.
Thanks in advance.

Sean G.|||Sean -
Thanks for your favorable reply.
I have tried out with similar way as it was mentioned in below article:
http://blogs.msdn.com/bwelcker/archive/2005/05/20/420349.aspx
But I am not able to set customized color for each column in the chart.
Please let me know if this requires SP1 or SP2 in my machine.
Because when I tried to call custom function written in code window of
Report property, it returns nothing. I have wrote "code.SetColor(values)" in
Data-->Values-->Edit--> Value tab but i dont think that it is calling custom
funciton properly. I strongly have doubts that it willl require SP1 or SP2 on
my machine.
Please verify and clear my doubts on this.
Seeking for your help.
Thanks in advance,

Customize the reporting services interface display reports.

Hello:
We are using the reporting services interface to display reports. By using
the security we restricted some access and everything works fine.
Now we would like to change the way the parameters prompt works.
Is there any way of applying styles to the pages rendered by the reporting
server?
Thanks,
Daniel Bello. You can modify the RSReportServer.config file to specify a custom style
sheet for HTML Viewer. The <HTMLViewerStyleSheet> setting is not included in
the file by default. You must type it into the <Configuration> selection of
the RSReportServer.config file and then specify the style sheet you want to
use. Do not include the .css file extension when specifying the style sheet.
The following example provides an illustration of how to specify the style
sheet:
<Configuration>
...
<HTMLViewerStyleSheet>MyStyleSheet</HTMLViewerStyleSheet>

Customize SRS Home Page

I need to customize the SQL Reporting services home page with my company logo and some text. Is there a way of doing this. Thanks!SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services 2000 SP1 added the capability make some
modifications to Report Manager. The file you need to look at is
...\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL\ReportingServices\ReportManager\Styles\ReportingServices.css.
If you want to change the reporting services site name displayed in Report
Manager you will need to modify that on Report Manager's site settings page.

customization of browser setting in reporting services 2000

Hi
I want to know how can i customize browser setting in Reporting
services 2000.I wish to show name of my report on browser.I don`t want
to show it as Report parameter. It should be text , just name of the
report. How is this feasible? can it be done by changing report
container, if yes than how?
Quick reply will be highly appreciated. You can try editing the file Report.aspx with a javascript that adds the
name of the report.
Try following the code in this thread:

Customising home page (reports/pages/folder.aspx)

hi
is it possible to cusomise the reporting home page to add logos, maybe additional text etc?

My understanding is it is not possible.
May be someone from Microsoft can confirm and explain why the hell not...

sort of white paper or similar form.
I would think it is quite natural when implementing RS to give the reports
portal the company look and feel. Are there are other best practices
(besides customizing Home page) to give RS a local company feel. Probably
there are if you choose to develop stuff yourself.
With minimal portal development, what can be done to give users a good
Reporting Home Page.
Some documentation / response from Microsoft would be highly appreciated and
anticipated...

Customised totals

Hi,

I am creating a report using matrix. The reporting services subtotal, sums up the data on all rows. The data in rows contains numeric & percentage values. I need the total for numeric value as sum and for percentage values as weighted average. Does anyone know how to do this or is this limitation of RS. Thanks.

You mean you want to have different calculation done in the subtotal as oppose to the one used in detail cells? If so, you can use the InScope function to do it. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms156490.aspxsql

Customise Report Manager

Hello
We have Reporting Services 2005 and was wondering if it is possible to
customise Report Manager interface and possibly add a company logo and maybe
status messages of when the databse was last refreshed?
Kind regards
Ricky
(SS2005/SSRS2005)This is from Books Online:
You can customize Report Manager in very limited ways. You can modify the
application title on the Site Settings page. If you are a Web developer, you
can modify the style sheets that contain the style information used by
Report Manager. Because Report Manager is not specifically designed to
support customization, you must thoroughly test any modification that you
make. If you find that Report Manager does not meet your needs, you can
develop a custom report viewer or configure SharePoint Web parts to find and
view reports in a SharePoint site.

Sure you can add your company logo with these steps:
1. Make your logo an 46 x 48 jpg image file
2. Rename it to 48folderopen.jpg
3. Look for folder "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting
Services\ReportManager\images" or where you install RSS2005
4. Rename the 48folderopen.jpg to 49folderopen_old.jpg (not necessary, but
it is always a good idea to have backup)
5. Copy your logo (renamed in step 2) to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportManager\images"
6. Enjoy

Thank you for you message, sounds promising. I'm assuming this swaps an

Incidently, I don't suppose you have had any experience modifying the

Customer Deployment Requirements for Reporting Services Express?

Hello. I have a version of SQL Express with Advanced services. I created a report and all seems well in Report Manager on my computer. Smile Now it's time to deploy my report to some customers.

1. Can I create an application in Visual Studios Express to view my report? I've read things online that seem contradictory to me and I'm hoping you can clarify this.

2. On a customer machine, if they have a .net application that can render my report, will they have to install reporting services on their computer or can the .rdl file run independently of reporting services if plugged into a .net viewer component? If it was called from a .net application, then Report Server and Report Manager aren't really needed are they? I have a situation where we don't want to use IIS on customer computers if we don't need to. Since the reports will not be adhoc, we're hoping to avoid needing to install Reporting Services on customer computers.

Thanks!

Debbie Erickson

Not sure on #1.

On #2, you should be able to render the report through the ReportViewer control, which removes the need for the Report Server and Report Manager (and IIS), as it handles the report rendering.

Custom Security Roles

I am trying to implement forms authentication in reporting services and I
would like to use the report manager for rendering reports. What I don't
want to use is the built-in tools for item level and system level security.
Is there a way to get information as to which item is being accessed in the
Getpermissions and CheckAccess function so I can check my custom database for
authorization?Brent,
I don't think you need to know the item accessed because the CheckAccess
overload is scoped at an item level. In other words, if the user tries to
run a report A, the Report Server will pass the security descriptor for
report A only. The job of the security extension is to find out if the user
has rights to carry the action by examing the security descriptor. Any yes,
you can use application-defined role membership policies to simplify the
user maintanance.
I have a two-part article in the works for the SQL Magazine which discusses
Forms Authentication in detail. It should be out in January-February issues
I think.

Hope this helps.

First of all, I want to thank you for your prompt response to my question
and I will be looking for that article when it comes out.
Let me go into further detail as to the situation with the reporting
services and how I would like to use them. I currrently have a proprietary
security system setup for my enterprise-scale application that manages
thousands of users and groups and tens of thousands of roles. I don't want to
have to re-define that information in the ReportSErver database. Actually I
would like it if I had absolutly no security definition at all in the
ReportServer database. That being said. How would I get the unique
identifier of the object (i.e. report, folder, datasource) being accessed so
that I can cross-reference MyDatabase1 for security access.
In a nutshell I want to be able to use the report manager for the report
rendering and not for managing role-based security. I think building our own
custom rendering UI is the only logical alternative.
Please let me know what you would consider the best option with this scenario.
Thank you in advance for your input.

I understand your scenario now. Of course, assuming that the reports will
be rendered on the server side of the application you don't have an issue
since you have an application front end. This is similar to the security
scenario I describe in Chapter 13 of my book.
However, the real problem is with URL addressability and custom security
extension. One approach that may be appropriate in your case is to get the
report path from the URL request. This could be similar to the approach I
describe in the following thread
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=Disable+Hyperlink+in+EXCEL&hl=en&lr=&selm=%23VCcwuh1EHA.1264%40TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl&rnum=1
Once you get the report path, you can get the report identifier (the primary
key in table Catalgo) which is what you may want to use in your custom
security infrastructure.

Custom Security Forms Authentication for Report Manager

I have reviewed/implemented the examples in MSDN, Brian Larson, and T.
Lachev's works for custom security forms authentication for reporting
server(including Lache's Role based structure outlined in the book and DevX
forums).
However, the documentation falls short of configuring the Report Manager for
custom security-forms authentication as well. What procedures would I need to
complete to remove the Windows authentication requirement from the Report
Manager and replace with forms authentication. Specifically, I want to add a
html redirect page to take to "My App" that handles Single Sign on calls(to
LDAP) which will also call the logon user methods from SSRS to establish the
necessary SSRS cookies and allow us to link to the /Reports/Pages/Folder to
access the report manager from within the application.
Specifically: I need sample settings for each of these Report Manager
configuration files
1) Web.Config
2) RSWebApplication.Config
3) rsmgrpolicy.config
Also what location would I have to store the appropriate redirect page and
what path setting do I need to apply to any of the above files to make this
work.
Thanks for any help you can provide.Answered here:
http://www.sqltalk.org/ftopic9114.html&highlight=forms+authentication
Bottom line was web.config for the report manager has to have
<authentication mode="Windows"/>
<authorization>
<allow users="*" />
</authorization>
<identity impersonate="false"/>
And your RSWebapplication.config
should have <loginUrl>/Home.aspx</loginUrl>
Note that your IIS default content will have your redirect page which you
save in your report manager directory and not the home.aspx.

Custom Security Extensions for SQL RS 2005

Hi,

I'm having a lot of trouble trying to set up a custom security extension with Reporting Services 2005. Following the VB example from McGraw Hill Osborne (http://www.mhprofessional.com/product.php?cat=112&isbn=0072262397&cat=112), I've compiled the .dll for the extension and made the changes to the ReportManager and ReportServer .config files. After I reset IIS and return to the RS website, it displays "The report server has encountered a configuration error..." and I get a message in my System Event log:

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{BA126AD1-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E}
to the user MYMACHINE\ASPNET SID (S-1-5-21-1708537768-839522115-1343024091-1005). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

Wondering if anyone else has had similar trouble and how did they get around it?

Have you modified the RSSrvPolicy.config ?

Here is a guide I followed to successfully implement custom authentication in RS.

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms160724.aspx

Look at the section "To modify the RSSrvPolicy.config file"

Regards Andreas|||

Here are the changes I made to .config files before running Reporting Services and getting these errors:

Under the ReportManager directory:

rsmgrpolicy.config - MyComputer code group permission from Execution to FullTrust

rsWebApplication.config - modified <UI> entry, added redirection to login page + URL

Web.config - identify impersonate -> "false"

Under the ReportServer dierctory:

RSReportServer.config - Added <Extension> elements with Name ="Forms" inside both <Security> and <Authentication>

rssvrpolicy.config - added new <CodeGroup> block just under CodeGroup with "$CodeGen$" string

web.config - identify impersonate -> "false"

Custom security extension permission problem

I've created a Reporting Service security extension based on the sample. It works great on my development 2003 servers but when moved into integration environment I am getting the following error in Report Manager when clicking a report:

Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ReportingServices.ProcessingObjectModel, Version=9.0.242.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied.

Navigating folders and creating folders all seems to work in Report Manager. We only get this error when selecting a report. If I uninstall the custom security extension then everything works.

This seems like a difference in security settings between the two server but I'm not sure how to troubleshoot it.

Thanks

I had a similar problem and it was due to the fact that the user account of the SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER) service did not have access to the C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files directory. It needs Modify access. Once I changed that, it worked fine.

Good luck

Thanks.

I had to add modify permissions on C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files to the Execution Account I specified in Reporting Services Configuration Manager. This is because I ran a report with a local datasource (with dynamic connectionstring) with setting "Credentials are not required".

custom security extension

Hi Everyone,
After implementing the custom security for Report server I am getting
this error when I try to login to the Reporting Services through SQL
Management Studio.
Error: Client found response content type of '', but expected
'text/xml'.
The request failed with an empty response.
Does anyone have any solution for this. Please let me know if you do.
Thanks in Advance,
BharathHi All,
I found the cause and resolution for this error. I thought of sharing
it here.
After implementing the forms authentication, you will have to login to
the Reporting services in the Management Studio using forms
authentication itself. Otherwise the user is likely to get the error
mentioned below.

spend $20,000 US dollar to buy this product just because of Custom Security
Extensions and Data Driven Subscriptions. I don't think it is worth. How
about SQL server 2005 version ?

presentation on improvements with 2005 but no mention of how things will be
packaged and what the costs would be). You say you don't need enterprise but
then you say you do, because data driven subscriptions and custom security
extensions are two major features of enterprise. There are not that many
things different. About the only other major difference other than those two
is support for web farms. I bet if you price versus Crystal that RS will
still come out ahead or at least even.
