Custom Renderer in SharePoint integrated mode

We have been successful in creating a custom Excel Renderer that works very well on a server configured for SSRS Native mode. However we have another server that is configured to work in SSRS integrated mode that we can not get this custom renderer to work properly. The steps we follow are:

After the report results are displayed we select Actions -> Export -> Excel Custom . So I can see the name of our custom rendering type. After a very short amount of time (no more than a second or 2) I get a frame that says: an unexpected error has occurred. Here is the URL of the web site:

http://sharepointserver/sites/BI/Reports/Reserved.ReportViewerWebPart.axd?ReportSession=2jqe4e45sm0sze553avovv55&ControlID=5c4fbb59def64efdac050393cd3fb338&Culture=1033&UICulture=1033&ReportStack=1&OpType=Export&FileName=edi001&ContentDisposition=OnlyHtmlInline&Format=CUSTOM_RENDERER

Is there anything that has to be done differently to get a custom renderer to work in SharePoint integrated mode?

Note: here is the article we followed to initially create the renderer that will work in SSRS native mode:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/05/02/CustomRenderers/

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I have had the same problem, and have not found any hints yet on how to get a custom renderer to work. I check the supported/unsupported feature list for Integrated SSRS, and there is no mention there that the feature is not available, so am holding out hope that it is something simple.

Custom Data Extension to SQL Server

Where I work we have custom code to retrieve the connection string. Theprogrammer provides a role and a mode and a connection object isretured. I need similar functionality from Reporting Services and I'mnot sure where to start. I was thinking of passing the role and mode inas username and password under credentials and being able to use thisas my connection to get data for reports. Any help in solving thisproblem would be greatly appreciated.

SQL Server Reporting services is part of SQL Server so you can create roles either with stored procedure or under permissions in Enterprise manager. Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Gift Peddie

|||Sorry but you did not understand my post. Please read before replying.As I said we have custom code that we pass a role and mode to that willgive us the CONNECTIONSTRING.

Sorry maybe the link below could help.

Kind regards,

Gift Peddie

|||I have figured it out and that link doesn't relate to the problem.
I figured out how to do a custom data extension but I am getting astack overflow exception when I try using the extension. I am alsogetting a SecurityPermission exception when I try calling a functionthat uses interop code. So anyone with any ideas to either of theseproblems would be appreciated.

Custom data extension has trust issues

I wrote a custom data processing extension which works in preview mode,
but when viewing it from the report server I get the error:
--
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Cannot create command for data source 'MeridiumDataSource'.
(rsErrorCreatingCommand)
That assembly does not allow partially trusted callers.

I have put the correct codeblock tags in rssrvpolicy.config, right
after the codeblock with Url="$CodeGen$/*" as I'm supposed to:

Custom data extension has trust issues

I wrote a custom data processing extension for reporting services in
SQL Server 2005. The extension works in preview mode, but when viewing
it from the report server I get the error:
--
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Cannot create command for data source 'MeridiumDataSource'.
(rsErrorCreatingCommand)
That assembly does not allow partially trusted callers.

Name="MeridiumCodeGroup"
Description="Code group for my data processing extension">
<IMembershipCondition
class="UrlMembershipCondition"
version="1"
Url="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\Reporting
Services\ReportServer\bin\MeridiumDataExtension.dll"
/>
</CodeGroup>
--
I have some 3rd party assemblies that my DPE references; I also put a
codeblock for them in rssrvpolicy.config:
--
<CodeGroup
class="UnionCodeGroup"
version="3.2.0.148"

Description="This code group grants Meridium core code full
trust. ">
<IMembershipCondition

/>
</CodeGroup>
--
I also put the followinig line in my AssemblyInfo.cs file:
--
[assembly: AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers]
--
None of these things changed the error. I also recently tried using
mscorcfg.msc to create a code group giving everything in the bin folder
(including all of my DLL's), and then I copied that codegroup to the RS
config file. This failed to change anything as well. Any help would be
greatly appreciated!Hi Ryan.
I have worked a lot with extensions and have had a lot of security issues.
I think the easiest way to find out which assembly needs permissions is to
debug. Step through you code and when a unthrusted method is called you will
get an exception.
Your third party assemblies might call something that need to be thrusted?
Kind regards

Custom Code Error

I'm receiving an #ERROR where I've call a function created in the custom code section. The reports works fine in development debug mode, only errors after deploying to SSRS. Note the custom code contain code that access the database using the SYSTEMS.DATA.SQLCLIENT namespace classes. Is there a security access problem in SSRS reports server?I had the same problem..
I've created a custom assembly for that..

Imports System.Data.OracleClient
Imports System.IO

'Important to get it work within a report
<Assembly: System.Security.AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers()>

Public Class DB

'Write do Database
Public Shared Function writeBack(ByVal FehlerID As Integer) As String
Dim perm As New OraclePermission(Security.Permissions.PermissionState.Unrestricted)
perm.Assert()

Dim conn As New OracleConnection
conn.ConnectionString = "Data Source=DB;Unicode=True;user=scott;password=tiger;"
conn.Open()
Dim oracleCommand1 As New System.Data.OracleClient.OracleCommand
oracleCommand1.Connection = conn
oracleCommand1.CommandText = "update ben_mailversand set gesendet=1 where fehlerid=" & FehlerID
oracleCommand1.ExecuteScalar()
conn.Close()
writeBack = oracleCommand1.CommandText
End Function
End Class

Thats not exactly brilliant but I found no other way..

in rspolicy.conf you have to set this assembly to fulltrust..
|||

There is a reason why you will need to assert FullTrust permissions in the OracleClient case: If you read the MSDN documentation for the OraclePermission class and the SqlClientPermission class and compare them, you will notice the following statement:
"This class [i.e. OraclePermission] is intended for future use when the .NET
Framework Data Provider for Oracle is enabled for partial trust scenarios.
The provider currently requires FullTrust permission."
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/cpref/html/frlrfsystemdataoracleclientoraclepermissionclasstopic.asp

Note: The managed provider for SQL Server is enabled for partial trust scenarios, therefore it
is sufficient (and advisable) to just assert the SqlClientPermission when using it in custom assemblies.

Thanks for your post, it led me in the right direction. I struggled for awhile but I've finally gotten it to work.

These are the items that took me awhile to figure out:

1. Placement of custom assemby on ReportsServer:

Must be placed in this directory "prior" to deploying report.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportServer\bin

2. rssrpolicy.config FullTrust entry:

There are two way to enter this for signed or unsigned assemblies, you need to enter the correct method.

Thanks again,

Mike

Custom Assembly deserialization issue

I see a lot of people are having the same issue when deploying to the report
server, even though things are running fine in design mode on their local
machines. I know that you need to copy all assemblies referenced to
/80/Tools/Report Designer/ and /MSSQL/Reporting Services/ReportServe/bin/ as
well as update rspreviewpolicy.config and rssrvpolicy.config files with
something resembling the following:
<CodeGroup
class="UnionCodeGroup"
version="1"
PermissionSetName="FullTrust"
Name="Custom_Code_Group"
Description="Allows for custom code execution in Reporting Services">
<IMembershipCondition class="UrlMembershipCondition"
version="1"
Url="C:/Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server/80/Tools/Report Designer/*"/>
</CodeGroup>
However, when I try to run the report in the preview utility or on the
server, I am presented with:
<i>Request for the permission of type
System.Security.Permissions.StrongNameIdentityPermission, mscorlib,
Version=1.0.5000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=[PublicKeyToken]
failed.</i>
In the preview tab in the designer, the referenced assemblies are properly
deserializing my serialized object being returned by the query but since
there's this security issue when running the report elsewhere, I am having no
such luck. What am I doing wrong?It is also worth mentioning that the other error I get sporadically without
rhyme or reason is:
The value expression for the textbox â'textboxâ' contains an error: Cannot
find the assembly AssemblyName, Version=1.0.2120.25649, Culture=neutral,
PublicKeyToken=null.
This appears and disappears as I close and reopen Visual Studio as well as
rebuild my reporting project.|||Hi Keenan,
As you are doing the mermership of the assembly through the url and not the
strong name of the assembly maybe this is your case... in your server, the
assemblies are located exacly at: C:/Program Files/Microsoft SQL
Server/80/Tools/Report Designer/ ? or maybe it's in a different drive? if
they are not located in the same place you would have to change the url or
try with a membership with the strong name of the assembly

doing custom code. The URL references the exact spot on the server (from the
server's point of view, of course) where the assemblies reside. Nothing
works. I've tried strong-naming my assemblies and that caused a huge error
even in the design preview, so I have no idea at this point.
I am pretty sure there is some way to get my assemblies to run, since they
work in the design preview mode which runs everything with full permission.
Microsoft's support suggestion to me was really a question asking me to wait
for the 2005 suite of everything.

custom assemblies problem

I have built a custom assembly, I copied it to the right folders and wrote
some code to call the component.
It works fine in preview mode, but when I deploy the report to another
server I get the error:
"error while loading code module 'x', version='x' ..."
I feel I tried everything, copying the dll myself to the server's
reportserver\bin folder, giving read & execute permissions, creating the xml
nodes in the RSReportServer.config on the server etc.
Always that error.
Is there some description on what to do if you deploy your reports with
custom assemblies to another server?This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

This article describe what needs to be done for =custom assemblies if they do not work by default: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/def=ault.asp?url=3D/library/en-us/RSPROG/htm/rsp_prog_rdl_8mue.asp=-- Alex MineevSoftware Design =Engineer. Report expressions; Code Access Security; Xml; SQE.

Thank you for answering. The problem =was solved, it was a stupid mistake of mine.
The good news is that the FullTrust =setting did help me later when I needed to load assemblies from report code :)

might be a code access security =problem
to diagnose (do not do this on a production =server) please find rssrvpolicy.config file in ReportServer folder and modify the following:
old:
&nbs=p; new:
&nbs=p;
Restart iis and see if it runs the report, let =me know the results. If it runs - it's a security problem, I will let you know =further steps.

! Please undo the change of =rssrvpolicy.config afterwards...!
