Custom Task Properties

So I've built my own custom task and it has a selection of properties.
I drop it onto designer and can see the properties (VS Property Grid not custom UI ).

The properties window retracts and I decide to reopen the property window. My Properties have now disappeared (mine - not inherted). Never do they return for that instance of the task. add another task and we can see the second instance's properties but suffer the same fate as with #1 when we want to see them on > 1 occasion.

I can see the properties in Expressions which leads me to think the task is correct and it is a VS grid thing.

Jamie, Myself and Darren have experienced differing but similar issues with properties of various objects (variables/Tasks) and being able to see the values etc.

Is this an issue you are aware of internally?

Thanks

Allan

We've seen similar issues in the past. Since it's not happening with the stock tasks (or is it?) I would question if it's the grid...
Hard to say without having the task or some other repro of the problem.
Do you see this with other tasks besides your custom tasks?
K

|||Hey Kirk.

No this does not happen with the STOCK stuff. Are any of your Tasks managed code? I can post you the task if you want as it is driving me nuts.

Thanks

Allan|||Yes, many of the stock tasks are managed. So, sure, why don't you open a bug and put the code into the bug. We'll take a look.

custom report designer

does any one have any idea about a custom report designer dealing with rdl / rdlc formats ?
this one would need to be essentiallywinforms based
Meaning not server based but local
what i need here would have to deal with field formatting too
maybe something along the lines of the report builder in ssrs
does any one have any resources in mind?
thanks for any help!

hi,

first create one rdlc file with existing ds and certain values (which is in working condition)

then open it as an xml file.

now you can see the xml tags in it and before generating the report generate the rdlc file as per your caluclation (these tags has column width..etc)

generate the rdlc and then, while showing it in report viewer select processing mode as local, then give this rdlc file as report and bind the dataset which you want to show in the report.

First, open a working report's rdlc file content in xml viewer, you can understand what to do, by using System.Xml namespace classes.

I will try to find the code, i have worked on it in the past.

Custom Query Designer from VS2003 to VS2005

Hello,

I have a Data Processing Extension (DPE) that worked quite well in VS2003 with MSSQL2000 RS. I'm trying to port it to VS2005 with MSSQL2005 RS and I'm having the following problem.

In 2003 I used Microsoft.ReportDesigner.Interfaces.IQueryDesigner to define the query designer inside of VS2003. In 2005, that line does not compile; I get “The type or namespace ‘interfaces’ does not

exist in the namespace ‘Microsoft.ReportDesigner’ (Are you missing an Assembly

reference?)”

What is the 2005 equivalent of that interface? What's the best way to port an 2003 DPE to 2005?

Thanks

The IQueryDesigner interface has been renamed to Microsoft.ReportingServices.Interfaces.IQueryDesigner and you should add a reference to Microsoft.ReportingServices.QueryDesigners.dll.

Custom Query Designer

Hi,
I'm having some trouble with implementing my own Query Designer.
I have built a control that implements the IQueryDesigner Interface
and register it in the RSReportDesigner.config file.
However Visual Studio never calls it. When I click on the Generic Query
Designer Button to switch between the Generic Designer an my Custom Designer,
The Designer window simply Reads
"The Query could not be loaded."
"Verify your connection string and query string."
I have tried attaching the debugger and I can break on the other Data
Extension classes I have implemented. So it appears that Studio is erring
before it gets to loading my Control. Everything else works fine if I run it
through the generic query designer.
I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Reporting Services thinking
the Designer may be broken, but this hasn't helped.
Unless someone has a better Idea, I'm going to resort to reinstalling visual
studio.
Any Ideas?
Thanks
Adrian B.Testing the Query Designer Code on another machine has not helped. So
re-installing Visual Studio will pointless.
I am currently at a loss for where to go with this.
Does anyone have any ideas at all?
Adrian B.

Custom Query Designer

Hi,

I am trying to build queries dynamically through a custom interface very much the way Query Designer does. Looking at few of the posts and replies in the forums it seems that SMO does not facilitate building queries but just offers you the metadata of the relational objects.

Are there any other DLL's/API's available which anyone is aware of which faciliates this ?

Thanks

Sam

You could use ADO.NET and build the strings and execute that way.
Tim|||In short, no. There are 3rd party commercial query builder components out there though.

Custom Data Extension - Designer Extension Could Not Be Loaded

Hi All,

I've managed (finally) to get a Custom Data Extension to work in Reporting Services 2005. The next problem I have is that whenever I click on the "data" tab when creating a report (from Visual Studio 2005) an error appears: "The designer extension <ext name> could not be loaded. Check the configuration file RsReportDesigner.config".

Is there some way of getting rid of this error message? Such as creating a designer, if so does anyone know how (I don't need the designer to do anything, just not crash)? I can still modify the data for the report etc its just annoying that's all.

Cheers,

Dan.

Make sure that you have your data extension registered in the
RSReportDesigner.config file, located here: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\. Also, to use the generic query designer, be sure to add the following line to the <Designer> element of the config file (changed to use the name of your data extension).

<Extension Name="DataExtrensionName" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.QueryDesigners.GenericQueryDesigner,Microsoft.ReportingServices.QueryDesigners"/>

Ian|||

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the quick reply that worked a treat! Nice one.

I'm guessing there is a way to create your own designers? I'll look into the QueryDesigners namespace and have a poke about :-)

Thanks again,

Dan.

Custom assembly problems in RS

Hi,
I have a custom assembly that is working just fine in the Preview tab in Report Designer. However, the popup preview is blowing up with the error: Execute permissions cannot be acquired.
I've added a code group (at the top of the code group section) in the rsPreviewPolicy.config, which is residing in the default location. My .dll is in the correct place and functioning, as evidenced by the preview tab success. The .dll is using ADO.net to call a stored proc in an Oracle database.
I added the code group by directly editing the config file; I'm no XML veteran, so I'm not sure if it's configured correctly. The .Net editor tells me it's "well-formed". When it wasn't well-formed, I got an error regarding loading the file, so I'm assuming this isn't the problem.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Unless you assert the permission explicitly in the custom assembly code, it
will fail with a security exception.
Example for opening a connection to a SQL Server:
...
SqlClientPermission permission = new
SqlClientPermission(PermissionState.Unrestricted);
try
{
permission.Assert(); // Assert security permission!
SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection("...");
con.Open();
...
}

custom assembly permissions

I wrote a custom assembly which access a oracle server database (ODBC). The
report failes on the RS Server, not in the Report Designer.
The problem is the database access, without it the assembly works.
I modified RSReportServer.config and rssrvpolicy.config. I read everything
I could find about the subject (spend more then 50 hours). But I'm still poke
around in the fog.
Can somebody instruct me by give me the exact code he is using in the config
files and in the assembly? It seems the code must be modified too, I tried
but it doesn't work.
Thanks in advance!Right now, the .NET Framework provider for ODBC is not yet enabled for
partial trust scenarios. It currently requires FullTrust permissions (this
will change in a future version). So, unless your custom assembly has
FullTrust permissions, it won't work because asserting OdbcPermission has no
effect (details can also be found on MSDN: OdbcPermission class). In the
particular case of using ODBC to connect to Oracle you definitely need to
give the assembly FullTrust permissions and assert them inside the custom
assembly (see code snippet below which asserts the FullTrust permission
inside the custom assembly via an attribute):
[PermissionSet(SecurityAction.Assert, Unrestricted=true)]
public foo()
{
// ...
OdbcConnection cn = new OdbcConnection("..... connection string");
cn.Open();
// ...
}

Custom Assembly in SMDL

I have created Custom Assembly that I am using in the Reports that I created
in Report Designer, it works and everybody is happy.
Question is how can I use this same custom assembly in my SMDL, so that I
can use this function in the DSV column defintion. Where can specify the
Custom Assembly reference.
I am trying to get some help on custom assembly and SMDL in the internet, No
Luck.
Please Help!. Thanks,I found where I can add the Custom Assembly Reference
- Right Click on the Project
- Select "New Assembly Reference"
Now, how do I use the function in the custom assembly in the DSV or Mdel
definition?
Please Help!, Thanks.
