Customize Report Parameter Properties

Is it possible to modify the XML code at runtime? I want to control the
report parameter properties multi-value setting of True/False during runtime
in the XML behind the RDL file. Set it to True if I want the parameters to be
multi-value or False for single-value. This is determined based on the value
selected in parameter one. Parameter one and two are City,State.
If City is selected in parameter one then I want Parameter two to be a
single-valued list, if State is chosen in Parameter One then I want the list
in Parameter two to be a multi-valued select list.
Any ideas or guidance would be appreciated.No, this is not possible.

are using the portal (report manager) that ships with Reporting Services. If
you want to create your own web page and then integrate with RS using either
web services or url integration this is certainly possible. RS 2005 ships
with a webform and a winform control for integrating RS reports into your
applications.

>|||Well, the only way you could do this is to have a report that just has
links. You would need to have your own website. Usually people either use
Report Manager or provide their own front end via their own application.

Is the custom code you write in the Properties section of one report
accessible to other reports within the same project? if so, how is it
accessed?

PMNo it is not. Consider code behind reports. If you want to do this you have
to use custom assemblies. I.e. create the code outside of RS and then
reference it from RS.

Custom Task Properties

So I've built my own custom task and it has a selection of properties.
I drop it onto designer and can see the properties (VS Property Grid not custom UI ).

The properties window retracts and I decide to reopen the property window. My Properties have now disappeared (mine - not inherted). Never do they return for that instance of the task. add another task and we can see the second instance's properties but suffer the same fate as with #1 when we want to see them on > 1 occasion.

I can see the properties in Expressions which leads me to think the task is correct and it is a VS grid thing.

Jamie, Myself and Darren have experienced differing but similar issues with properties of various objects (variables/Tasks) and being able to see the values etc.

Is this an issue you are aware of internally?

We've seen similar issues in the past. Since it's not happening with the stock tasks (or is it?) I would question if it's the grid...
Hard to say without having the task or some other repro of the problem.
Do you see this with other tasks besides your custom tasks?

Custom Task - Custom Property Expression

I am writing a custom task that has some custom properties. I would like to parameterize these properties i.e. read from a varaible, so I can change these variables from a config file during runtime.

I read the documentation and it says if we set the ExpressionType to CPET_NOTIFY, it should work, but it does not seem to work. Not sure if I am missing anything. Can someone please help me?

This is what I did in the custom task

customProperty.ExpressionType = DTSCustomPropertyExpressionType.CPET_NOTIFY;

In the Editor of my custom task, under custom properties section, I expected a button with 3 dots, to click & pop-up so we can specify the expression or at least so it evaluates the variables if we give @.[User::VaraibleName]

Any help on this will be very much appreciated.

Are you by chance actually referring to a Custom DataFlow Component? If so, the expressionable properties actually show up on the DataFlow Task container. To edit the expressions, select the DataFlow and open properties. Find the Expressions property and open the Property Expressions Editor. You should see your custom component's expressionable properties in the Property dropdown.

Custom Properties in External Metadata not writeable using the Advanced Editor

Hello,

I'm working on a custom dataflow destination component. It makes use of the External Metadata Collection. I also use Custom Properties with the external metadata collection.

When I open the destination component using the Advanced Editor, and select an External Metadata Collection and change the Custom Property it always changes back to the original value.

Additionally the method SetExternalMetadataColumnProperty never gets called.

Here is a little Test Component that surfaces the problem:

Are you sure that your SetExternalMetadataColumnProperty method is getting called? I believe you must implement the functionality to set the property yourself rather than delegating to the base class.|||

No, actually part of problem is that it never gets called when I change the property.

The method is only implemented for debugging. If you set a breakpoint in it, it never gets called. As far as I understand is, you would override this method just to implement additional functionality when a custom property of an External Metadata Column is changed, eg for validation.

Custom Properties and PDF Properties

We need to generate PDF files as our end point. These files must contain
'custom properties' (such as Author, Title, 'What Have You') which will be
used to index the documents for searches. We will generate our reports
using Reporting Services and then 'export' them to PDF format. We are not
sure that
Reporting Services "CustomProperties" will work to achive this goal. We
also have seen no working code examples of "CustomProperties". Do anyone

rendering extention. Customproperties settings in SRS are used when

Custom dataflow component: How do you make properties editable?

I have a custom component that takes in unicode stream and converts it to ascii text. However I would like to make my default string length and code page editable in the standard GUI editor. Right now I can set the default to 1000 characters, but when I try to change it, it says "Property value is not valid"

I assume you define your property in ProvideComponentProperties? Can you post the code just to be clear?

By default this is all you need to do, the property should then be listed in teh Advanced UI and also in the Visual Studio designer property grid. You would have to do some extra special stuff to make it read-only.

I would check the data type of your property and see what value you have entered, it maybe a simple data conversion issue. To be sure of the property type I woudl view the package XML and find your property and look for the dataType. When you define properties in code, there is no way to really specify the type, it is kind of guess work based on the default value, and it does get it wrong sometimes.

Is there anyway I can send report properties to a custom
assembly which does all the work and passes back a dataset
that I can then bind to a report?
I've got to do some extensive pre-processing of the data,
which I couldnt really do with sql query alone, but I'd
still like to take advantage of all the other benefits of
sql reporting services.

I am trying to lear how to use custom coding in a report. I go to the
report properties and type in my code but when I try to access it
suing "Code.MyTestCode", I do not see my function but only a slection
list of "Equals", "GetHashCode","GetType", "Reference Equals" and "To
String".
I have tried code as simple as
Public Const MyName = "John"
and then tried to assign it to a text box.
What am I doing wrong or have setup wrong on my system?

assembly. I am typing my code into the report properties Code window.
All the samples indicate that it should then show up when I use the
"Code.xxxx" command. I appreciate any suggestions as to what I am

Custom Assemblies and accessing report connection parameters

I am trying to access the datasource connection properties (connection string
etc) from a report -I will be accessing the information via a custom
assembly, or passing it to a custom assembly with a view to firing a stored
procedure at the end of the report in order to update a number of status
flags including the last page number of a report. The custom assmbly's done,
but has a hard coded connection string - I need to get at the reports
connection string so I fire the sp in the same db as the report's bound to.
Is there any way of accessing this information direct from the report or an
interface I can implement to retrieve it?No, you cannot access this information on RS 2000. The closest you can get
to have this configurable is to add a hidden parameter (requires RS 2000
SP1) and pass this parameter to the custom assembly.
