Custom URL to Report Manager

Hopefully someone will know the answer to this one.
We are trying to setup a url (reports.company.com) to point to Report
Manager so that end users will not have to enter in a server name.
This works initially, but the web app changes the url back to
http://ServerName/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx
Is there anyway to have the url not change so that it would show
http://reports.company.com/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx?
We are wanting to customize report manager a bit before we offer to the end
user communnity.

spindlejDuh, I must have been on crack yesterdy. After thinking about it somemore
today, I realized that the default web site in IIS configuration was set to
foward to http://ServerName/Reports/
All I needed to do was change it to forward to
http://reports.company.com/Reports/ and now it works like a charm.

Custom Page Size

Hai,

Is it possible to setup custom page size in crystal reports? I do have about 40 column and it is necessary to display and printing in report viewing. What I do now is I used A3 paper size & landscape. In report design, the page ruler at the top shows 23(inc / cm..not sure about this). Anyhow..can I adjust it to be more bigger than this? Currently the reports can generate the data as per requirement..but it look quite messy and bit cram. Kindly adviseYou need to install a printer driver for larger sized paper.
Bit of a pain when Crystal supports extract to Excel but won't let you design a report bigger than an installed printer driver size.|||Hi JaganEllis

Thanks for the response.
I did install the printer software. Adobe PDF creator..which is the software allowed me the option to choose A1 to A3 size. When I used A2 page size..it expand till 26 (page ruler) ..it look better than used a3 or A4 size. Unfortunatelly still quite messy.. so, I've changed to A1 size..and now I can resize the column and the data printing little bit nice. However..when tested it in report viewing..the error message come out 'Page too large' .. ayyo! Another problems come out.. hmmm what should I do? anybody can suggest me another printer software that can printing for larger size.

Out of idea already..kindly advise.

Custom Fax Delivery Extension

Hello All:
We have setup Reporting Services. I want to integrate it with Fax server for
creating new subsciptions using custom delivery extension.
Apart from this custom extension, I am having one more solution for this
scenario and that is sending email (in the format <fax number>@.<fax server
name>) to the fax server as it is on SMTP.
I have not tested this scenario but from some search on net on this topic
brought out this solution. I am not sure whether sending email to the Fax
server (as it is on SMTP) will be right solution.
And if this is the solution then why do we need to write Custom fax Delivery
Extension? Any help or sample code or steps in this regards will be highly
appreciated
RohitIf you have an eamil address that works like a fax server, then you can make
a subscription to the report and email it... However there is no USER
Rendering agent for fax server, so a user can not run the report, then
export it to a fax server unless you write a custom extension..

Thanks for the reply. I have database of external users to whom the report
from reporting server is to be faxed. So depending upon the subscription made
report will be sent to different fax numbers. I am testing for the
functionality of fax server to send fax to different numbers, but I think I
have to write fax extension. If Ic an et some sample code for it then it will
be of real great help.

Custom Date Ranges

I'm currently using Reporting Services for SQL Server 2005. I have been able to setup, and configure the Report Manager interface, as well as generate reports via the Report Builder. What I have been unable to do is allow the user to dynamically set the date range that my SQL query will use. Can someone suggest / is it even possible wihtout using a custom web interface?

If you are using BI studio to build the report, you need to create two parameters, say StartDate and EndDate. Set the data type for both parameters to DateTime. Then in the data set query, in the where clause, you'll need to do something like DateTimeColumn BETWEEN @.StartDate AND DATEADD(d, 1, @.EndDate). HTH.

Custom Conflict Resolution Question

Hello,
I have to setup custom conflict resolution so that the
most recent update wins using a column 'lasteditdate' in a
a merge replication scenario and have about 150 tables to
do this on. Do I have to configure each table/article
individually or can I do all necessary tables in one shot?

each one has to be done separately. However, you could create the
publication in SQLDMO then loop round the tables if you want a more
efficient way of doing it.

Custom Code to Setup Parameter

I have a function that calcualte last_sunday date and return a datetime.

I have two Parameter in my report

start_date

end_date

and I put th following code in the report Parameer Properties

for Start date parameter

code.Last_Sunday

For End Date Parameter

code.Last_Sunday.adddays(6)

However when I ry to Preview I am getting this error

[rsReportParameterPropertyTypeMismatch] The property ‘DefaultValue’ of report parameter ‘Start_Date’ doesn't have the expected type.

What I am doign Wrong both parameter are defined as datetime.

You may want to try changing this line:

Return format(start_date,"MM/dd/yyyy")

to

CDate(Return format(start_date,"MM/dd/yyyy"))

The format function returns a string - not a DateTime...

Why are you formatting it here?

You mention a report...would it not be better to just pass the unformatted datetime to your report and handle the formatting in the report?

If you want create a re-usable function like this, it is better to return the raw data and handle formatting etc from where it is called. It is more generic and re-useable that way.

I was wondering if it was possible to setup RS to use custom
authorization with out implementing custom authentication ? I want to
use windows authentication for authentication, and custom
authorization. If its possible how would I go about configuring it ?

you can't implement both (Forms and Windos) authentications together!
Your first question is a bit confusing, I'm not shure if I understand it
correct.
You can find out how to implement forms authentication in the following
article:

A sample application can be found in samples bellowe the SQL Server
installation directory. If requiered you can install this sample with the
installation CD or download them as described in the article.
There are some traps in this article, especialy with w2k3 server.
For the report manager the instructions are not working. You need to
configure Windows instate of forms in the config file.
You need to followe the instruction carefully and expect some traps and time
for googling, trial and error etc.

I wan't my users to be authenticated via windows security but I wan't
to control what they have access to via my custom extension. I
couldn't find anything in the config files but what I ended up doing
was replacing the windows authorization config line with mine and it
loaded the DLL just fine.

Now my problem is that when i try and load the ACL i get a
serialization exception "The input stream is not a valid binary
format. The starting contents (in bytes) are: XX-XX...". After doing
some research I think its because the security description was created
with the windows dll. So now I have to figure out how to clear the old
security descriptions and I can create new ones using my
CreateSecurityDescriptor function.
Any help would be appreciated.

This seems to work just fine, now my problem is when I try and deserialize
the ACL's I get a "The input stream is not a valid binary format" Exception.
