Customising toolbar in the browser of RS HTML viewer

Dear friends,

please help me by commenting on my query.

Query::

I want to know how to customise the tool bar in RS HTML viewer, we can hide or show the toolbar using rc:toolbar= false/true, But i want to customise the tool bar.

ie, There is a combo for export formats to export the displaying reports. I want to customise that combo. I can clear the items by removing the extension element in the config of RS, but i want to do it in run time .

ie, My different reports should show different export formats simulteniously

You can customize the individual items on the toolbar with the information below:

http://blogs.msdn.com/bimusings/archive/2005/07/08/436887.aspx

However, there is no way to dynamically customize the rendering extensions that can be used at runtime (or on a per-report basis). You essentially enable or disable each rendering extension in the config files, and based on this work, certain formats show or don't show in the combo-box.

If you *must* have this functionality, I'd suggest that you turn off the toolbar completely and create your own version of the HTML toolbar which handles paging, zooming, etc. via URL Access (There is a sample of this in SSRS 2000). If you go this route, YOU can choose what rendering extensions to show the user in your own combo-box...However this will take a fair amount of work.

As u said i checked the path

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting Services\ReportServer\styles

the Styles folder doesn't exist. my version is RS 2000 enterprise Edition.

i searched for .css files in my installation folder i only got one major css ie ,reportingservices.css in

Reportmanager\styles

|||

It's very helpful and good article.

but can we make the changes in main "htmlviewer.css" and we got the reflected changes in all the reportserver reports.so by doing this we don't have to make another copy of css file and give "rc:Stylesheet=cssfilename".

i have also second question is there any way by which we can pass "rc:Stylesheet=cssfilename" URL to parent report to child report(by drilling down-jump to report) method.

thanks in advance.

|||

i didnt see any provision for adding url parameters in child reports. but we shall try one thing .

In your parent u add a parametr in some name "stylesheet" , and pass the value . this we can do . and while making the chil report u can assign parametrs or that , so create a parameter in the name "rc:Stylesheet" and select the value . the value is the parent parame value

ie , "rc:Stylesheet = stylesheet "

hope u will inform me regarding this

|||

Hai it's good idea, thanks ..

i did one try and it's working.

i had add "rc:Stylesheet=cssfilename" in my parent report, now when i am drilling down to child report

"rc:Stylesheet=cssfilename" parameter will automatcally carried forward to next report(child report).so there is no problem

for passing "rc:Stylesheet=cssfilename" one report to another report.

but i try your solution in different case, because i have also problem while passing "rs:clearsession=true" to other report.

Thanks,
Sanket.

Hi .

I had made the changes in respective CSS file for hiding print icon in report toolbar and deployed report in local reporting

service machine (LAN) and our onsite machine.

but the problem i am facing is when i am accessing my local reporting server machine at that time print icon is not

visible.so it's as per my requirement. but when i am accessing our onsite machine reporting server at that time i seen print

icon and it's only seen in my PC, my other team members doesn't seen that print icon both on local reporting service machine

and onsite reporting service machine.

can anyone help me out in this issue, because it's very urgent ..

Custom Toolbars

Has anyone developed a custom toolbar in lieu of using the html viewer that
comes standard with SRS? Specifically, toolbars accessed through URL Access
to the report server.
If so, can you direct me to some knowledge bases articles or examples of how
they've been developed or deployed? Thanks!Brian,
With version 1.0 of RS you cannot replace the HTML toolbar. If you don't
like it, you could develop your own ASP.NET page which will have a custom
toolbar and render the report in the page.

Hope this helps.

Thanks but what I am looking for is a good knowledge base article or even
some code to use as example of doing just what you say...building a .NET page
that imitates the HTML toolbar. Basically, I just need some guidance on
talking to a RS Report from a standard .NET aspx page.

<shameless self-promotion>
Well, my book has a whole chapter devoted on integrating RS with web-based
app. If you don't think like reading and buying it you could download the
book source code. There you will find an enhanced version of the
ReportViewer (AWReportViewer). It is a ASP.NET web control which supports
rendering reports on the client (URL addressability) and server side (SOAP).
Talking about articles, the good news is that I wrote an article on
web-based reporting for Visual Basic Developer magazine
(http://www.pinnaclepublishing.com/ME2/Audiences/default.asp). The bad news
is that it requires paid access :-(. I hope MSDN will pick it up soon.

custom plugin error: how to pass information to Mining Model Viewer?

Good morning,

Well... As I said in other topics, I'm doing a clustering plugin for text mining. I'm facing many problems and, with your help, solving them one by one.

First of all, thanks a lot again.

Well... I've made a clustering function that is actually working very well. But I'm exporting its results to a log file I use as an algorithm trace for debugging.

My clustering method returns a vector containing information of what cluster each register belongs. For instance:

vector[0] = 1 -> The register of index 0 belongs to cluster 1.

vector[1] = 9 -> The register of index 1 belongs to cluster 9.

vector[2] = 2 -> The register of index 2 belongs to cluster 2.

...

And so on.

But... I know that none of the Navigation methods receives a structure like this one discribed above. I only use it to log the results to debug the algorithm.

But how to pass this information (what register (or test case) belongs to what cluster) to the Navigation ?

Thanks a lot again, and any help will be very appreciated.

Actually, you can use the GetNodeDistribution method of the navigator, then use the ATTRIBUTE_NAME and ATTRIBUTE_VALUE properties of a distribution row to present, say, the register index and the cluster. Effectively, NODE_DISTRIBUTION is a table inside a content node.

The tutorial for managed plug-in algorithms (as well as the sample) detail how to add custom rows to a NODE_DISTRIBUTION (nodes that are not attribute/value pairs). The information is useful even if you use the C++ infrastructure

Custom Errors

Hi,

I am showing my report in the web application using Report Viewer control.In the report i have start date and End date parameters.While running the report if i give startdate as '45/66/20007' it is displaying a message which is not user friendly.Is there is any way we can handle this type of errors and display our own custom error messages.

Thanks in advance

Hello Mahima,

I was facing the same problem but I solved it through strored procedures. I passed my custom message in the RaiseError exception after the validation.

Example : This is not a solution for your problem, but I think you change the validation accordingly

IF (DATEDIFF(MM,@.StartReceivedDate,@.EndReceivedDate) > 12)

BEGIN

SET @.DateErrMsg = 'The Date Range should fall with in an year, Please correct the range.'

RAISERROR (@.DateErrMsg,18,1)

END

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I try to implement that when the condition occured, it is displaying like in this way:

Query execution failed for DataSet1.

An error occured during local report processing

under this our raise error message is displaying.

Is there any way only to display our message which in raise error other than first 2 lines.

Thanks in advance

|||

I am using the (ReportErrorEventArgs e) from Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms namespace.

The way I have displayed our Raise Error exception is through the Message box.

Example:

MessageBox.Show(e.Exception.GetBaseException().Message, "Some message",MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error);

Then

I am hiding the " Query execution failed for DataSet1.

An error occured during local report processing

our raise error message is displaying."

with this expression : ReportErrorEventArgs.Handled = True.

In our requirement we need a messagebox to display ,but I am sure we can find a way to hide the first two lines and dispay only Raise Error execption message.

Hope this helps.....

|||

Hi,

Can you please tell me in which event you are handling this.

Can you please give me the detailed example or any other link which speciefied this event handling.

Thanks in advance

|||

It is the ReportError event for the ReportViewer.

private Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportViewer rptvSelReport;

Example:

private void rptvSelReport_ReportError(object sender, ReportErrorEventArgs e)

{

MessageBox.Show(e.Exception.GetBaseException().Message, DIALOG_FORM_CAPTION,MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error);

e.Handled = true;

Cursor.Current = Cursors.Arrow;

}

We have used this in our dev. environment and its working fine.

Let me know if you need any help....

Custom Error Pages

Hi,
I have created an asp.net application in which I use the report viewer
control to display my report. My problem is that if the report server
displays an error message then I want to trap that error and display my own
custom error page my company logo with the error message,
Is it possible to do this using Reporting Services ? I am not using the
render method but url access because I have the report viewer control on my
page
ThanksWhat you are trying to perform is not supported in RS 2000.
The RS Winforms/Webforms control available in Visual Studio 2005 will enable
handling certain error conditions in your application code.

Custom Conflict Viewer

Hi -I would like to create my own conflict viewer for a few reasons:
1. I am using MSDE
2. I would like to have more control over what is shown to the user
3. The application may store attachments in image fields (say they are
Excel spreadsheets), the user would like to view the content of the winning
and losing image fields (and see the spreadsheets) before they make a
decision on which would they want to keep.
Does anyone know what is the best way to go about it?
To get information on conflicts, it seems that I need to use the
following sprocs:
sp_helpmergearticleconflicts
sp_helpmergeconflictrows
sp_helpmergedeleteconflictrows
After I have this information, it seems that I need to get the table at
the publisher (I am using the default conflict resolver so the publisher
always win when I run the Merge agent) and its equivalent conflict table and
display them to the user (after some formatting). Am I on the right track?
Are there stored procedures or views to get the conflict table or do I just
reference it directly? Are there stored procedures to manipulate the
conflict table (so the conflict can be deleted after resolution).
Are there any libraries or controls out there that would accomplish
something similar?
Thank you,
Maer
the SQL 2000 resource kit is a good start. They have a chapter devoted to
this.
You can also examine the Microsoft SQL Replication Conflict Resolver
Library.

|||Thank you. However, I don't want to create a custom resolver since the
ones that come with SQL Server are sufficient for us. What I want is to
create a Conflict Viewer so that after merging has taken place and winners
and losers have been chosen, the user can go there and make changes (to
override the decision if necessary).
I took a look at the chapter and it didn't seem to cover the Conflict
Viewer itself. Please let me know if I should have looked elsewhere.
Thank you for your assistance - Maer

There is a conflict viewer class as well. I can't locate it at the moment,
when I find it, I'll post it here.
